Gerardo and Sonia

How thrilling it is to see God move in the life of a young person, to transform him from a state of rebellion, confusion, and lostness, into a new creature who loves the Lord with all his heart and soul and spends each day serving Him. Such was the life of Gerardo Nolasco, a young man from Honduras.

What a blessing it is to every one who meets Gerardo, his precious wife Sonia, and their two beautiful children, Josue David and Dianna.

After his adventures as an illegal alien to the United States, from 14 years of age until 19, Gerardo returned to Honduras and was introduced to the Lord Jesus Christ by his Christian aunt. Almost immediately he sensed God’s call on his life and responded to opportunities that placed him in contact with Christian volunteers on mission in Honduras who began to disciple Gerardo.

In 1998 Gerardo felt God call him to be a pastor, and, within a short time, he was introduced to IMB missionaries to the Lenca, Billy and Betty Capps. While serving as an interpreter for Stuart Heights Baptist Church of Chattanooga, TN in San Marcos, Honduras for a medical/dental team, a new church was started. Gerardo felt called to serve the congregation, which he has faithfully continued to this day. San Marcos is located approximately 18 miles west of La Esperanza, Intibuca, Honduras.

Then, God gave Gerardo a precious, committed, young Christian wife, Sonia. Sonia has been and continues to be a blessing to Gerardo, their two young children, and the Lenca people. It is impossible to tell how many lives they have touched, from the nationals of Honduras to countless volunteers from the states over the past 12 years.

Gerardo loves to preach, to share the gospel, and to disciple believers. He conducts two worship services each Sunday and three weekly home Bible studies. He also disciples youth and community leaders each week.

Sonia works part-time as a lab technician for a local doctor’s office. She loves music and taking care of her husband and children. Sonia also loves to read and to cook, and she has been completely involved with the ministry, teaching children’s classes and traveling up into the mountains with Gerardo to serve and love the people.

Diana is in the fourth grade now and attends a local bilingual school with her big brother, Josue David, who is in the fifth grade. She likes music and dancing, especially ballet, and the color pink! Diana is always helping her mother around the house and is learning to be of great service in translating for volunteer teams.

David also likes music and is learning to play the flute. His favorite color is blue and he is also learning English. He is also a big help around the house and with the teams. One of the great joys of volunteers is spending time with David and Diana.

The whole family shares a love and commitment to the Lord and serving Him as they serve the Lenca, and spend their lives seeking to lead them to the Lord in salvation and discipleship. They are an inspiration to all and covet our prayers for their family that they will always be faithful to the Lord and His call and to each other.
